Masterclasses

Geoffrey Madge has given masterclasses in Holland, England (Yehudi Menuhin School), Poland, Germany, Finland, Russia and Australia.

Some points already discussed in the article ON TEACHING are worked out in a communicative way with the aim of making them not just useful for the participating students; but also for the listening public. These classes touch upon many subjects with references made to literature and other arts.

Many subjects intrigue him, the connections of performance to speech, the way in which we can make use of our intuitions and how this is picked up by others during a performance. So each class goes into many different areas.

These masterclasses can be combined with lecture/recital discussions on the following subjects:

• The teachings and piano playing of Ferruccio Busoni;
• The solving of pianistic problems. In the form of questions and answers from the audience;
• Piano playing and the art of intuitive creation, making use of the unconscious in piano playing;
• The art of several legendary pianists and their use of belcanto (combined with film excerpts). Including detailed demonstrations.
